SELINA FAROOQUI : THE INTERVIEW

And finally I can offer you the interview to Selina Farooqui ,awarded as best designer in Qatar  and promising young emerging designer ,showcasing her new collection in Doha!.

Tell me what´s new in the new collection?
With my new collection, W By Night, I have returned to all of the things I love and adore about fashion. The garments are easy to wear and glamorous, the skirts are flirty and playful, the blouses are feminine, there are bejeweled jackets and sequin and lace dresses…

Which has been your inspiration?
Luxury, elegance and mystery…I thought of these words while trying to create a mood and concept for the “W By Night” Collection.I designed an exclusive ready-to-wear line of garments that are young and edgy, yet sophisticated with a touch of Arabian luxury, making this collection perfect for the modern woman living in the region. The garments are rich in fabrication, details and hand-sewn embroideries and crystal work. The color story is dark and mysterious, with magentas, deep purples, navy blues, and blacks, highlighted with touches of glittering gold, silver and bronze embellishments and beading. The collection features 30 head-to-toe looks, comprised of skirts, jackets, blouses, pants, dresses, evening gowns and accessories.
¿En qué te has inspirado?

Gulf clients are very interested in international luxury brands , how to you compete against that? what "added value" can you offer them?
Its simple, I compete against it by staying true to my own designer DNA. By creating garments and fashion that are 100% true to my own taste and creativity, I know I provide my customers with something unique that they wont find anywhere else in the world. The international brands are, as the term says, international. You can buy the same collection anywhere in the world. The advantage young designers have is that we are able to offer something individual, and now more than ever, the women in the Gulf are more interested in getting that one of kind special garment that no one else has. With small scale production, we are also able to pay close attention to details, embellishments and customizations for the customer.

Curiosidades LATC I : What´s fashion in Qatar?

It´s been quite a while I wanted to show you the flowers some arabic ladies wear in the hair; they do a kind of tail with multicolored flowers and the head scarf on top so they look more elegant and taller!. It reminds me a lot of the spanish head scarf in the South of Spain and I even thought that our head scarf in Spain came from the Middle East, but apparently not, according to them as they´ve been only wearing it for 4 years!. Ladies, the longer I´m in Qatar the more similarities I see with the spanish culture!. Unfortunately I cannot offer you pictures , so you will have to use your imagination ... but instead of the spanish hair clip, imagine this flower clip!

                                                   Isn´t it interesting?

You can find flower hair clips everywhere in Qatar!

Imagine instead of the spanish "peineta" the flower clip and instead of the typical spanish mantilla, the head scarf and olé!

THE GULF III : In Petra; feeling like Indiana Jones ...

One of the advantages to live in Qatar is to be able to visit the neighbor countries in the Gulf and observe similarities and differences, specially from a western woman point of view, and I want to share my impressions and fotographs in Jordan!. We´re used to see and admire the beauty and elegance of Rania of Jordan and I´ve to admit that I had the wrong concept about the country, the real picture of Jordan shocked me in so many ways!. I didn´t like Hamman, the capital at all, but Petra is absolutely spectacular , a wonder to be seen and admired!.  When I was visiting, I was reading a book titled "Married to a bedouin" by Marguerite Van  Geldermalsen, a new zelander who went to Petra in the 70s , met a bedouin man and ends marrying him and living like a bedouin in a cave!. Can you girls imagine for a minute to change and leave behind our comfortable life in the West to live in a cave in the mountains???  So when I went to the Monastery and the Sacrifice in Petra, in where you feel like in an Indiana Jones film, and I came across  to a cave with a lock, I thought to myself: "That must be Marguerite´s cave"!,  and I compared the photograph in the book with the real one,  and there it was !!! :  I was in front of Marguerite´s cave !!!. It was so exciting and a thrill , because you feel and can actually have an idea of what her life must have been all those years living in that cave!.  What an amazing experience!!!.

Have you ever been to Petra? How did you like it?

MY LOVELY VINTAGE BROOCHES

Some time ago one of you asked me to make a post on my vintage brooches!.I make a great use of them; I put them in my ponchos, in my wallets, in my bags, in my sweaters ... I love them!. I bought almost all of them in a real Vintage shop in Cape Cod this past summer!.

                                                              Do you like them?
Do you have any brooches you love?
How do you  like to use them?

This type of broche is perfect to close  shirts;  not to show too much in Qatar!

I use that one in ponchos, sciarpas ... is also a pendant.

Perteneció a mi suegra
I love to use it for sweater necks as is tiny tiny. My wonderful mother in law gift!

The fire Department had to take me out of that store in cape Cod!
Mi tienda favorita en Cape Cod!

No podía quedarme con todo ...
I couldn´t get it all, but I would if I could!
